Dental technology has come a long way over the years, and at Drs. Galligan & Villa we are constantly working to stay up to date on all of the latest techniques and equipment. From digital X-rays to oral conscious sedation, we’re able to use technology to diagnose and treat your dental needs in the most effective ways possible.
With advanced dental technology, we’re able to make you more comfortable, eliminating fear and anxiety through the use of sedation dentistry. We’re also able to show you exactly what’s going on in your mouth with our high-tech intraoral cameras, as well. We use cutting edge equipment and techniques to give you the best experience and the best results for your smile.
Digital X-rays (also known as digital radiographs) of your teeth are taken by inserting a sensor in your mouth and taking an X-ray image of your teeth. However, instead of printing on film like traditional X-rays, the images captured by a digital X-ray camera will be projected on a screen for you to look at with Drs. Galligan and our team.
The high-definition screen isn’t the only difference between digital radiographs and traditional radiographs, though. With digital X-rays, you’ll be exposed to less radiation than with traditional X-rays. While the conventional X-rays used in most dental offices are relatively safe, these are far superior, especially if you need to have multiple X-rays taken.
Furthermore, the images we can capture from digital X-rays are much clearer and higher definition than traditional X-rays, allowing us to see even the smallest bit of decay or other issues. They also take less time and are more environmentally friendly than traditional X-rays. And, should we need to transfer your records to another dentist or specialist, much easier and faster, too.
Have you ever wondered what your dentist or dental specialist was looking at as he or she peered deep into your mouth? We take the mystery out of dentistry with the use of an intraoral camera. This amazing camera is small enough for us to hold lightly between two fingers, and it gives a clear, high-resolution picture, so it’s easy to see everything in your mouth.
By using an intraoral camera, we can actually show you video imagery, in real time, of plaque, tartar, tooth decay, or anything else that’s going on with your teeth. In the old days you’d have to trust us when we told you to brush and floss more often. Now you can see where exactly plaque is building up and what kinds of problems it could cause.
Intraoral cameras improve how we communicate with you, and they allow you to get a better, clearer picture of your dental and oral health. See the difference a tiny camera can make when you visit us for a cleaning or any other dental procedure.
Oral Conscious Sedation
For patients who have fear and/or anxiety related to dental visits, we offer oral conscious sedation. About an hour before your procedure, you’ll take a pill orally that will help you relax and forget about any worries you had for the procedure.
With oral conscious sedation, you will be awake throughout the procedure, but you may feel drowsy. Some people even fall asleep during their dental appointments under oral conscious sedation, but they’re easily woken up with a gentle shake of the shoulder. You won’t have to worry about falling asleep completely while you’re in the office; we’ll be taking care of you the entire time.
After your appointment, it’s not uncommon to have little to no memory of the time that you were sedated. This means you won’t remember the sound of the drill if we’re filling a cavity or the smell of resin if we’re performing dental bonding.
We can also tailor your dose of sedative to match your needs and the level of relaxation you want to reach. No one should be afraid to take care of their dental and oral health, and with oral conscious sedation you can overcome your fears and anxieties without any problem.
