Beautiful Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers are very thin porcelain shells made specifically to fit your teeth. They can serve a number of purposes, including minor re-positioning to make teeth appear even and smooth. Veneers can be matched to the color of your teeth, or you can choose to have veneers placed over all of your visible teeth for a brilliant whitening effect. A lot of people choose veneers to lengthen their teeth if they have gummy smiles or uneven, damaged enamel. Find out if you are a good candidate for porcelain veneers when you meet with our cosmetic dentist for a consultation.
If you have weak or damaged enamel, Drs. Galligan and Villa may recommend veneers to protect your teeth, as porcelain is very durable and strong. With veneers you’ll never have to worry about eating the foods you love. With good dental and oral hygiene, veneers can be a beautiful, permanent solution to many cosmetic dental needs.
Are You a Candidate for Veneers?
Typical candidates for veneers are adults with otherwise good dental and oral health. They typically get veneers to correct:
- Discolorations and stains
- Minor positioning issues (e.g. gaps, slightly uneven teeth, etc.)
- Broken, chipped, or worn down teeth
- Irregularly shaped teeth
If you’re embarrassed to show your teeth for any of these reasons, you could be a candidate for porcelain veneers. Whether you’ve broken or cracked a tooth in an accident or injury, or you’ve never been happy with your uneven teeth, veneers could solve your problem and give you back your smile. Many patients have benefited from this procedure. For more information and a consultation with Drs. Galligan and Villa, give us a call today at 718-984-7700.
How Does the Procedure Work?
If you think that you may be a candidate for porcelain veneers, you’ll first need to schedule a consultation appointment with Drs. Galligan and Villa. During this appointment, he will examine your teeth and take digital X-rays and pictures to get the best look at what’s going on with your smile and how best to improve it.
He will then give you his recommendations for how to proceed, including all options for achieving the smile you desire. If the two of you decide that porcelain veneers are the right solution for your needs, you’ll make another appointment to have a mold taken of the affected tooth or teeth. This will be used to fabricate custom porcelain veneers specifically for your teeth.
Once your veneers are finished, you’ll come in for one more appointment to have them bonded to your teeth (not to be confused with resin bonding, which is an entirely different procedure that we also offer). You’ll see the amazing results as soon as the procedure is complete, and you’ll want to run out and show your gorgeous smile to the whole world.
After-Care and Maintenance for Your Veneers
After you get your porcelain veneers, you’ll need to come back after one week for a follow-up appointment. During this appointment, we will ensure that your veneers are in place and that everything is as it should be. After that, maintaining the beauty of your porcelain veneers is as easy as brushing and flossing twice daily. Just continue your usual good dental and oral hygiene habits.
