Have you had crooked, crowded, or gapped teeth all your life? Are your teeth starting to shift and move as you’ve gotten older? Do you dream of a perfectly aligned smile, but you’re just not ready to commit to braces? Invisalign® trays could give you that smile without the pain, discomfort, and embarrassment that come with traditional metal braces.
What Is Invisalign?
Invisalign® uses a series of clear plastic trays that are custom-made for your teeth. Each tray – which you’ll wear for about 2 weeks – brings your teeth progressively closer to the ideal alignment you’ve been dreaming of. Depending on how much you wear your trays and to what extent your teeth need straightening, the whole process usually takes between 9 and 18 months to complete.
The trays are virtually invisible, and they’re designed to be worn throughout the day and night, whenever you’re not eating or drinking (other than water, which is safe to consume while wearing your trays). For the best results, replace them immediately after you’re done eating and wear them no less than 22 hours per day.
After you’ve completed the process, you can continue to enjoy perfectly aligned teeth for the rest of your life just by wearing a custom-made retainer at night.
Why Invisalign® Clear Braces?
The idea behind Invisalign is very similar to that of traditional braces. The trays slowly shift the teeth into position and hold them there to avoid backsliding. However, people choose Invisalign over metal braces for a number of reasons. There are many advantages of Invisalign and pros and cons.
First of all, as we mentioned earlier, Invisalign trays are virtually invisible. Unless you specifically point them out, most people won’t even notice that you’re wearing them. With braces, you can’t help but get flashbacks to the awkward days of middle school and high school. While no one is likely to call you tinsel-teeth at the office, you might have problems gaining the confidence you need to give presentations and go for the promotions you deserve.
Furthermore, braces can often make speaking more difficult. With all of that extra material in your mouth, you might easily develop a lisp until you get your braces removed. Some people experience a minor adjustment period in the first day or so of wearing Invisalign trays, but most patients report that any sign of a lisp or any other speech impediment goes away after that.
Finally, Invisalign is a much gentler process than braces. You may experience a little bit of an ache at first, but this is easily treated with an over the counter pain reliever. After a few days, you will most likely start to forget you’re even wearing your trays until you start to see the results.
Are You a Candidate for Invisalign Clear Braces?
If you have mild to moderate alignment problems with your teeth, you’re most likely a great candidate for Invisalign. Whether you have gaps, crowded teeth, or your teeth are just a little bit crooked, Invisalign trays can give you the even, perfectly aligned smile you’ve been yearning for in just a few months.
